Striking woodland perennial known as doll’s eyes, with fluffy white flower clusters in spring followed by thick-stalked white berries each marked with a black “eye.” The berries and fleshy, red pedicels create a bizarre, eye-catching display in late summer to fall. Prefers partial to full shade and moist, humus-rich soils and should be planted where its highly poisonous fruits will not tempt children or pets.
